The only tea that grows with the snowfall in the world: Tea of Black Sea Region

Benefiting from its strategic geographical positioning and diverse microclimates, Turkey possesses exceptional agricultural advantages. Notably, the Black Sea Region stands as the world's only tea-cultivating geography that experiences seasonal snowfall.

Distinguishing itself from all other agricultural commodities, Rize Tea is cultivated entirely without the use of chemical pesticides, as the region's unique microclimate naturally inhibits pest proliferation. Consequently, Rize Tea is globally recognized as a strictly "Zero-Residue" product.

During standard processing cycles, residual tea fibers are systematically separated. Historically, these fibers represented an underutilized agricultural by-product with no established commercial viability. Konfrut revolutionized this dynamic through a strategic circular economy approach, systematically procuring these residual fibers and successfully upcycling them into premium "tea extract"—transforming unused biomass into a 100% value-added industrial product.

What is Rainforest Alliance?

With the RA Certificate, Konfrut creates a much more value-added product. This way, Konfrut does not only become a ring of this chain that gains more importance day by day, but also supports and promotes RA-Certified products, although they are less cost-effective compared to conventional products.

Rainforest Alliance is an environmentalist organization established in 1987, and operating in 70 countries.

RA helps farmers maintain and improve their incomes, supporting more sustainable and smart agricultural methods in terms of climate.

The organization promotes preventing deforestation, encourages reforestation, aims to protect biodiversity, and mitigate the consequences of climate change.

For obtaining and maintaining the Certificate and Green Frog Seal, the farms are subjected to annual inspections in accordance with a strict standard involving detailed environmental, economic and social criteria.

Rize, İyidere

Pelletizing Plant

By acting with the sense of environmental sustainability and responsibility, and with the purpose of reducing logistic-based carbon emissions; Konfrut established a pelletizing plant in the İyidere district of Rize, reduced the number of vehicles used in the logistic operations by 60%, and achieved a very significant reduction in carbon emissions.

What is Pelletizing?

Pelletizing is the process of chopping the product (tea fiber) into small pieces, a finely ground size of 8-10 millimeters, and compacting the product. This is a process that saves space and time..

Did you know that although Turkey is a major tea producer, tea extract was imported up until just five years ago?

Konfrut is proud of leading the supply chain in tea extract production with the pelletizing operation that contributes to circular economy.

With the project achieving a big success since 2019, Turkish Tea Extract does not only serve for the producers in Turkey, but also the tea lovers abroad thanks to the export operations.

Beyond Sustainability:
Rainforest Alliance Certificate

Konfrut targets to reduce the impacts of climate change, drought, and global warming, and minimize the adverse conditions during the production processes in order to contribute to the sustainability of the world.

Acting with this sense of responsibility, Konfrut renews the Rainforest Alliance (RA) Certificate for its Black Tea product, which is issued with the inspections carried out by an independent certification company each year.
